Tiniwai Wainohu
Landscape ArchitectManaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua. Care for the land, care for the people, go forward.
An intermediate landscape architect working out of our Wellington office, Tiniwai has a passion for sociology, sustainability and ecology which has shaped his passion for urban development and streetscape design.
Whakapapa to Ngāti Pahauwera, Ngāti Kahungunu, Tiniwai says collaborative design is important to his work here at HG.
‘’I want my projects to align with the aspirations and values of the communities they serve.’’
Having worked on a broad range of environmental ecology, cycle and transport infrastructure, and urban design planning projects, his thesis, titled Ko wai mato,u explored daylighting a buried river with significant history to the mana whenua of the area. Led by Mātauranga Māori design principles and water-sensitive design, his study has seen him apply it to constructed wetlands and riverside parks as well as pathway networks.
His love for landscape architecture and Mātauranga Māori design provide a unique lens to find connections between both areas, which leads to robust design outcomes.
