John Longson

Combining his passion for people, creativity and technology, John Longson leads our Tāmaki Makaurau survey team here at Harrison Grierson as Reality Capture Team Leader.

A surveyor originally from Huddersfield in the UK, John was an early adopter of drone technology which has seen him training with the Slovenian Army, working with telcos in the UK and closer to home, supporting the New Zealand Fire Service earlier in his career.

A self-confessed tech geek, John is at the forefront of surveying technology and gets a real buzz specifically out of 3D reality meshes using underwater lidar drones, photogrammetry, 360 cameras and 3D Lidar scanners.

He’s particularly excited about how AI creates real efficiencies for his team and what they can deliver for our clients.

Outside of the office, as a father to twin boys and a musician, John enjoys spending time with his family and appreciating all sorts of music not just, Slipknot, Adele, and Fleetwood Mac.

His most desired project? To do something with renewable energy.
